Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards (ACCEA) 2007-08 Round

Dear Member,

The BHS, as a specialist society, is able to nominate a limited number of its consultant members for Department of Health, Clinical Excellence Awards (or Distinction Awards in Scotland). We also pass our ranking on to the RCP. Guidance is given on the ACCEA website (www.advisorybodies.doh.gov.uk/accea) to help make a decision on whether to request consideration. We understand that the guidance is strictly followed regarding the ten years as a consultant, or five years since a previous award before a new award would be considered.

Applications for a new award
At present, online registration is not expected to be available until September but in the meantime, application forms for the 2006/07 round can be used. These are available via the website link above. If you completed a CVQ last year, please send us a copy, unless you specifically wish to update at this stage. Scottish applicants can submit SACDA CVQs.

BHS Nomination
Your CVQ should be sent by e-mail to the BHS (bhs@le.ac.uk) for consideration. This is a confidential e-mail address. Subsequently your 2007-8 CVQs should be completed on-line and must be submitted to ACCEA by the candidate only, please do not send them to the BHS. Scottish applicants should follow the SACDA process.

All self-nominations will be considered and ranked by the BHS Executive Committee. Applications for the 2007-08 round have to be submitted before the 2006-07 awards have been announced so you should self-nominate again in case your first application was not successful.

In order for applications to reach the ACCEA/SACDA before the deadline of 18 January 2008, and for us to influence RCP nominations the following schedule must be strictly followed. No applications received after the deadline date will be considered.

10 September 07	Deadline for BHS Members to submit their applications to the BHS by e-mail to bhs@le.ac.uk
24 September 07	BHS Executive Committee meets to discuss and finalise approved applications. This ranking will not be revealed to candidates.
23 November 07	List of approved applications is sent to RCP for their consideration
December 07	2006-07 Awards announced by ACCEA
05 January 08	Deadline for copy of your 2007-8 nomination to be sent to bhs@le.ac.uk
18 January 08	Deadline for self-nomination and BHS submission of approved applicants to ACCEA
